Tammy has over 10 years of Administrative experience and coordinates the clerical and secretarial functions to support office staff and management. She will handle any questions regarding VEE Class and Field Certifications and Registrations.  She is currently pursuing her Associates Degree in Art.

Karen Haas, Business Administrator

Karen is HMH’s business administrator and oversees all aspects of business development including staff training, marketing, advertising, state and federal contracting, payroll, cost/tax accounting and financial planning.  She oversees all quality assurance aspects with technical report preparation and documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), business control documentation and manuals.

Erik Haas, Dipl.Ing, Principal

Erik has more than 20 years of industry and government experience.  He previously managed the air quality section for Alyeska Pipeline Service Company and was a founding member of the Alyeska, BP and ARCO Air Quality Peer Group.  He managed the industrial/domestic wastewater program and coordinated the air quality permits and compliance program for the State of Alaska.  He worked as an air quality district engineer for the State of Wyoming and as a process engineer for Michelin Tire Co. in France and Germany.

Erik holds a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Stuttgart, Germany with majors in power plant design and environmental engineering and completed his master thesis at Oregon State University.  Erik has taught graduate air quality engineering classes at the University of Alaska, Anchorage as well as the visible emission training classes for the state of Alaska.

Timothy Burke, Manager, Permits and Compliance Section

Tim has 14 years experience in environmental management with 11 years in air pollution permitting and compliance management with Clark County, Nevada.  His experience includes the coordination of major and minor source permitting and Title V compliance activities as well as managing the source-testing and CEMS program of over 1000 minor, major and synthetic minor stationary sources within Clark County. 

Tim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Biology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and a Master of Science in Natural Resource Management from Humboldt State University.

Phillip Austin, Staff Meteorologist, Permits and Compliance Section

Phil is a Staff Meteorologist with HMH’s air quality permits/compliance section.  He has two years experience as a meteorologist with NOAA’s national weather service in Portland, Oregon.  He also has experience with producing instructional videos for mathematics and was an adjunct instructor at UAA’s faculty of Mathematics.

Phil has Bachelor of Science degrees in Atmospheric Science from University of British Columbia and in Mathematics from University of Oregon.

Donna Shefcheck, Staff Scientist, Permits and Compliance Section

Donna has past experience as an environmental scientist with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation and Sampling. She has a HAZWOPPER certificate, earned in February 2009.  She also has experience in archaeological land use research and with inventory survey and limited subsurface testing for the Denali Natural Gas Pipeline Project.

Donna has a BS in Anthropology/Geography from University of Oregon (2005) and was awarded the International Society of Collegiate Scholars award.  She is presently studying towards a graduate degree in environmental law at the University of Alaska.

Larry Taylor, Jr, QEP, Manager Ambient Monitoring and Testing Section

Larry previously coordinated the air quality monitoring efforts with the Municipality of Anchorage.  He is widely considered the foremost expert in fine-particulate matter monitoring within the state.  He was an analytical chemist, process engineer, and then plant foreman at Alaska Pulp Corporation in Sitka for sixteen years.  He also owned a chemical laboratory for asbestos microscopy, bacteriology for seafood processors, indoor air quality chemical analyses and urinalyses,.   Larry is a member of the American Chemical Society and past Counselor of the Alaska Section. 

Larry has BS degrees in Chemistry and Biology from University of Alaska, Fairbanks 1974, a BA in Sociology from Haverford College, Pennsylvania 1969.  He is a QEP (Qualified Environmental Professional of IPEP) since 1996

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Ovidiu (Ovi) Popovici, Environmental Engineer, Ambient Monitoring and Testing Section

Ovi coordinates the construction and operation of HMH’s ambient air quality and continuous emission monitoring systems.  He compiles air pollutant concentration and emission testing data and prepares ambient and meteorological data into quarterly and annual reports.  In addition, Ovi manages the design a construction of HMH’s line of VEGA smoke generators.  Ovi has several years experience as a project engineer in electronic engineering and electric panel design. 

Ovi has a BS degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering from the University of Resita, Romania and Bethune, France.

Michael Watson, Documentation Specialist

Michael coordinates all HMH quality assurance efforts including technical report preparation and documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), business control documentation and manuals.

Michael also participates with the construction of HMH’s line of VEGA smoke generators.  He has several years experience as a craftsman and also with bookkeeping and database preparation. 

Michael received diplomas in Word/Information Processing and Accounting at Alaska Business College in 1998.

Alfred Bohn, PE,  Senior Air Quality Advisor, Permitting and Compliance Section ( 2000 – 2010)

 

Alfred Karl Bohn, 57, died Feb. 15, 2010, at his home in Palatine, Ill., after an illness. Alfred was born Feb. 26, 1952, in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Al was a registered professional engineer in Alaska and Alabama with almost 20 years experience in environmental and energy engineering.  At the Southern Research Institute in Birmingham Alabama, he participated in applied research of air pollution control devices and flue gas desulfurization projects. He later became the lead SRI engineer at the EPRI High Sulfur Test Center in Barker New York.  He spent 8 years with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation's Air Quality Section, writing operating and PSD permits, coordinating inspection and enforcement efforts statewide.  He managed the permitting section through the transition to the Title V program.

Alfred earned a degree in Thermal/Environmental Engineering from Southern Illinois University.  He was on the board directors with the Air and Waste Management Association (AWMA).  While serving in the US Army he earned the Army Commendation Medal.
